Visualising Subway’s US Sandwich Domination

Founded in 1965, Subway is a common fixture all over the US and the UK, having undergone massive growth in recent years. But just how dominant are the sandwich chain?

Subway have an incredible 43,000 locations worldwide, with more than 27,000 of those in the United States. To put that into perspective, McDonalds, which is often used as the benchmark of ‘fast food’ domination, have 36,000 locations globally. To put this market domination into visual terms, Flowing Data have produced a series of visualisations showing the prevalence of specific sandwich chains in the US, entitled Sandwich Place Geography:
