Today is World Poetry Day, the annual celebration of all things prosaic and poetic. The perfect opportunity to share your favourite poem with the world, or perhaps even have a go at penning your very own. However you choose to pay homage to this beloved art form, I hope it somehow inspires you.
Despite both falling under the creative umbrella, illustration and poetry are two distinct disciplines. So when a poet defies the rather outdated stereotype of a brooding introvert and actively reaches out in search of artists to collaborate with, the response is generally one of intrigue closely followed by an overwhelming desire to get involved. After all, when two or more creative minds come together, there is enormous potential to craft something special.
Another English Poet has done just that. Traceable only by his Instagram handle, this nameless wordsmith has garnered an audience that most social media butterflies can only dream of. 11.4K, to be precise. Why? Because his words resonate with each and every one of us. Powerful feelings cascade onto the page like the outpouring of emotions into a diary. And coupled with the interpretations of artists, both digital and traditional, his words have even more of an impact.
Here are some of the beautiful collaborative pieces he has shared on Instagram:
J Dots Designs, @jdotsdesigns
Bruna Babic, @bru.illustrations
Ailsa Tee, @ailsa.tee
Ashley Seil Smith, @seilsmith
Mason Rudy, @masonbrudy
J Dots Designs, @jdotsdesigns
Krista Tolstrup, @kristatolstrup
What a wonderful way to connect with other creative minds and create something truly unique in the process. I could go on, but I’ll stop here and let you head on over to Another English Poet’s Instagram to see the rest. And why not drop him a line to introduce yourself – together, you could make something beautiful too.
